TWENDE Meeting at the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute

22 February 2016

Dr Wilber Sabiiti has had a very successful plan for action meeting at the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI). He was pleased to be joined by the KCRI director, Prof. Blandina Mmbaga, who is also a TWENDE Principal Investigator. The team drew a research map to cover a representative number of healthcare facilities in the northern half of Tanzania, for which the KCRI is responsible within the TWENDE framework. Methodologies for quantitative and qualitative data collection were also discussed. In addition, the team talked about the importance of Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs) as  the KCRI is keen to establish one as part of the TWENDE project. Indeed, the KTO will live on long after TWENDE is over and continue supporting the translation of research innovations into policy and practice. Wilber is pleased by the way the meeting went because the KCRI took the driving seat and determined where and how they would conduct the research. The KCRI said: “we are enthusiastic and ready to do an excellent job”.
