SHORT COURSE ON EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS, 20th to 24th August 2018 ,at Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe, Uganda
The Uganda Virus Research Institute through East African Consortium for Clinical Research-HIV node (EACCR2-HIV node) is inviting applications for a short course training on Basic Epidemiology and Biostatistics that will be held from 20th to 24th August 2018 at Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe, Uganda. This is a 5-day long course targeted at young researchers, Medical doctors, laboratory technologists, Masters’ and PhD students who need the skills in basic epidemiology and biostatistics. The course consists of intensive learning sessions and hands on practical sessions in biostatistics delivered by some of the leading biostatisticians and epidemiologists in the field.

PanACEA kicks off new clinical trials programme for TB-drug evaluation
The EDCTP-funded PanACEA consortium (Pan-African Consortium for the Evaluation of Antituberculosis Antibiotics) who were recently awarded their second EDCTP grant worth almost € 11.4 million (PanACEA2), held a kick-off meeting in Cape Town, South Africa from 7-8 March 2017.

Prof. Dr. Martin Boeree presented MAMS TB 01 trial at CROI 2015
A combination regimen containing high-dose rifampicin (also known as rifampin) was associated with faster tuberculosis (TB) bacteria culture conversion in people with drug-sensitive TB, but moxifloxacin and the experimental drug SQ109 showed no benefit compared to standard therapy, according to results from a study presented at the recent Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI 2015) in Seattle, USA.
